Johnnie "June" Huff Jr.

Johnnie “June” Huff Jr. (July 28, 1947 – June 3, 2024) Johnnie transitioned on June 3, 2024, after battling stage IV cancer for more than five years. He is the true definition of a warrior and a fighter. Johnnie was born in New Orleans to Johnnie Huff Sr. and Willie Huff; Johnnie referred to her as “Ma Dear.” He was raised in Memphis and spent some time in West Arkansas. He came to Toledo in the late sixties. Johnnie’s siblings and other family reside in Arkansas, Illinois, Mississippi, and Tennessee. When Johnnie arrived in Toledo, he lived with his (late) Aunt Ruth for a while and worked with his other close (late) friends, Terry, Bumpy, and Prince. Terry, Bumpy, and Prince introduced him to beautiful Shelia Marie, who became the love of his life. Johnnie and Shelia went on a date to the movies and fell for each other instantly; engagement first, then married in 1972 in Toledo, Ohio. Their wonderful children arrived shortly after marriage: daughter Madeline and son John. Johnnie graduated from high school and worked at and retired from the Andersons. He was a production worker in the Fab Shop and Lawn Fertilizer. In his twenties, Johnnie was also a Sunday school teacher. He was of the Baptist religion. Johnnie’s friends and family always spoke of him kindly, a testament to his warm and cheerful nature. He was a familiar face in Toledo, Ohio, and his favorite hangouts were The Break Room, Martini & Nuzzi’s, and DD’s Roadhouse, where he would often be found sharing laughter and jokes with his friends. His charming personality and radiant smile endeared him to all. Johnnie was passionate about Bingo and sports, with the NY Yankees being his favorite team. We can’t forget those eyes. Everyone loved and will always remember Johnnie’s beautiful green eyes. Johnnie was an excellent brother, husband, father, and friend. Johnnie was preceded in death by parents Johnnie Huff Sr. and Willie Huff, wife Shelia Marie Huff, brothers Donald and Stanley Huff, sister Betty Huff, and best friend Johnny Ashford. Johnnie is survived by his children Madeline C. Hampton and John E. Huff (wife Dr. Nikki Giovanni Huff), sister-in-law Madeline Standard (niece Opal and great nephew Mylan), siblings Randy Huff (Deborah), Tim Huff (Dianne), Jerry Huff (Valerie), Joe Huff (Nicole), David Huff (Cille), Wanda Bradley (Lee), Tammy Huff (sister-in-law) and a host of family and friends. The services to honor Johnnie’s life will commence with wake at 10:00 a.m. followed by funeral at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 14, 2024, at St. Paul Baptist Church, 1502 N. Detroit Avenue, Toledo, Ohio, Rev. John H. Willis Sr., pastor. We invite all who knew and loved Johnnie to join us and welcome you to wear a New York Yankees hat.
