Jamesetta Royster

Jamesetta Hopson Royster was born on August 11, 1944 in Toledo, Ohio to the union of James Cleo and Winnie Lee (Lawhorn) Hopson. She departed this life on Monday, June 10, 2024 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by both parents James Cleo and Winnie Lee Hopson. She was a life long Toledo resident attending Toledo Public Schools and graduated from Jesup Wakeman Scott High School in 1962. Then she attended Mary Manse College graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1966. After teaching several years she continued her education at the University of Toledo receiving her Masters of Education degree in 1976. Following further education at the University of Toledo and Bowling Green State University earning certification in Statistical Mathematics and Career Counseling. After thirty-six years of dedicated teaching she retired from the Toledo Public Schools in 2001. She proudly excelled in all her professional and academic pursuits. On June 21, 1969 she was joined in Holy matrimony to Robert Jerome Royster, Sr. in Toledo, Ohio at Phillip Temple C.M.E. church where she accepted Christ at an early age and her family were life time members. To this union two children were born Robert Jerome (Tammy) Royster, Jr. and Roxanne Ja’neice (Montriese) Quinn. Along with her step-daughter Sonya (Roderick) Ellington. Jamesetta emphasized the importance of a good education and was a strong advocate in helping others pursue their educational endeavors. She was an avid reader who loved her books possessing an extensive home library. Her dedication and commitment to Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was commendable as a Golden Life Member (sixty-one years). Past President of the Toledo Alumnae Chapter; Greek Life Advisory Council at the University of Toledo and Bowling Green State University for over twenty-six years; It was a proud day for her to see her daughter become a Legacy. Benjamin Banneker Mathematics Association, Lifetime Member. Charter member of Maumee Bay Business and Professional Women’s Club. Her Masonic affiliations were State Grand Loyal Lady Ruler; Member of Pride of Composite Chapter #81 OES, PM; PLLR of La Paz Assembly #35, Order of the Golden Circle; Past Illustrious Commandress of Mecca Court #73, DOI; Past Imperial Deputy of the Oasis of Toledo; Past Royal Queen, Girls Assembly #6 (Bell Z. Ballard Girls Assembly No.6); Past Mother Advisor of Bell Z. Ballard No.6; Member of Ruth Court #6, (Northeast Ark Bearer) Heroines of Jericho. She is lovingly survived by her husband Robert Jerome Royster, Sr. of fifty-four years; two children Robert Jerome (Tammy) Royster, Jr. and Roxanne Ja’neice (Montriese) Quinn of Toledo, Ohio; step-daughter Sonya (Roderick) Ellington of Chesapeake Bay, Virginia; two sisters, Nancy Hopson Snell, Toledo, Ohio; Willia Mae (Wylie) Kynard of Washington D.C.; fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren, along with a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
