Howard Donald Badgett

Howard Donald Badgett, affectionately known as Mr. Grandaddy and The Flower Man, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on January 31, 1936, to Arnell and Howard Badgett in Holland, Ohio, Howard's life was distinguished by his kindness, generosity, and commitment to community service. Howard attended Holland High School and proudly served in the United States Army. In his community, Howard was celebrated for his personal acts of kindness. He earned the nickname "The Flower Man" for his annual tradition of distributing flowers and plants to the community. His visits to local nursing homes, where he gave flowers, vegetables, chocolates, and sodas to the staff and residents, showcased his deeply rooted generosity and love for others. Howard's commitment to fairness and his sense of humor made him a beloved figure to many. Howard was passionate about golf and was proud to be the first Black caddie at Glengarry Country Club now known as Stone Oak Country Club in Holland, Ohio. His life was a testament to his belief in fairness and his dedication to helping others. He is survived by his life partner, Jackie Brown; daughters, Angela Lynn (Tony) Rivers, Jeaniene Stewart, and Lontina Moore; grandchildren, De’Lisa Moore, Brandon Moore, Kimberly Williams, Jovon Peterson, Violet Moore, Charlie Moore, Erika Moore, Lawrence Moore, and Latrina Moore; seventeen great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Frank Badgett; sisters, Peggy Badgett, Bonnie Badgett, Jackie Smith, and Linda Parkinson; special nieces Shanta and Fatima Badgett; special nephew Rodney Badgett; cousins Betty Kendrick and Robert Kendrick Jr.; and special friends Eric ‘Moochie’ Patrick, Dennis and Eva Cole, Bula Fudge, Joe, Ernie Johnson, and Willie M., along with many other family members and friends. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Arnell and Howard Badgett; sisters, Rochelle Bradley and Rhoda Burgess; and brothers, Warren Badgett and James Badgett. In accordance with Howard's wishes there will be no service or viewing. His family respects his desire for a peaceful farewell. Howard Donald Badgett will be remembered for his unwavering generosity, his love for family and friends, and the joy he brought to so many lives. May he soar with the doves and rest peacefully in paradise.
