David Pettaway

I, David Pettaway 66, was born in Demopolis, AL to Rev. John and Albirdia Pettaway. We came to Toledo when I was a young child, graduating from Waite High School in 1960. I began my life of music and an accompanying love of Gospel at the church my father pastured, Rosemary Baptist on Nebraska Avenue. I loved singing in Gospel Quartets. I really started singing in my first group around age 17. My first group was the Heavenly Charms. Then The Golden Lites of Harmony which evolved into the Minister of Songs (M.O.S Gospel Singers). Along the way I practiced and filled in with different groups for different periods of time. I managed many of the affairs of both groups as we recorded and traveled throughout the Midwest. I loved singing and praising God. I liked art, drawing and painting also, Billiards and Auto Body Finishing which does not include many other outlets. I also retired from Kaiser Aluminum as a production worker after 26 years of service. I passed away at my home peacefully on March 13, 2008. I leave a wonderful family to carry our family legacy including six sons David McCurdy and Warren Pettaway both of Las Vegas, NE, Zane Pettaway of Chicago, IL, Davion (Krystal), and Dason Pettaway both of Toledo, OH, and Dwyer Fields of Birmingham, AL, three daughters Sherry Pettaway of Las Vegas, NE, Annette (Darrell) Galloway of Chicago, IL and Michelle Simpson of Toledo, two stepdaughters Angie McCurdy of Las Vegas, NE and LaShuna (Lamont) Hughes of Columbus, OH, twenty grandchildren, two great grandchildren, three brothers Champion Johnson, Isaac Pettaway of Toledo and Freeman (Diane) Peters of Detroit, MI, four sisters Bertha Mae Gary, Candy Lyons, Carrie (Gilbert) Brown and Anna Lee Harris all of Toledo, a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends. Here in the present, Barbara Scott has been my steady companion and her children Tonya, Jr, Lamont, I love also. Visitation will be Sunday 4-7p.m. wake services Monday 11a.m. followed by funeral service at 12 noon all at Dale-Riggs Funeral Home Chapel, Rev.
