Charles "Chuck" Phillips

Charles J. “Chuck” Phillips, age 79, of Lima, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on May 4, 2026. He was born on April 8, 1947, in Hope, Arkansas, to Claude and Hazel Phillips. In 1955, the Phillips family moved to Toledo, Ohio. He graduated from Jesup W. Scott High School in 1965. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in June of that same year. Chuck proudly served his country for four years and was honorably discharged. In 1966, he was blessed with his greatest joy—his daughter, Cheryl. Becoming a father was a role he cherished, and he embraced it with love, pride, and unwavering devotion. His steady presence, quiet humor, and deep sense of responsibility will be greatly missed. Chuck began a long and accomplished career in manufacturing and defense. He first worked with Chrysler in Toledo, Ohio, before transferring to General Dynamics Land Systems (Tank Plant), where he dedicated 38 years of service, retiring in 2010. In 1984, Chuck relocated to Lima, Ohio, where he would make his home for the rest of his life. In September 2001, he married Windy (née Sewell), and with that union he gained two “bonus” daughters, Domonique and Autumn. Chuck and Windy shared many happy years together, building a life filled with companionship, laughter, and mutual devotion. Chuck was an avid motorcyclist who truly enjoyed the freedom of the open road on his beloved BMW bike. He found joy in riding and spending time in his “Ge’raj”. It was more than a workspace; it was a gathering place where family and friends shared laughter, conversation, and memories that will be cherished for years to come. Chuck was deeply respected for his mastery of Goju-Ryu karate. A 6th degree black belt and Advanced teacher (Renshi). Chuck trained countless students over the years. Many will agree that Chuck always kept it real with folks. If you asked for his advice, he gave it to you straight—no chaser. He was a true family man, devoted to being a husband, father, and especially a grandfather. His seven grandchildren were a source of immense pride and joy. He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers; Claude Jr., Clyde Sr., Jimmie, Oscar, Rudoph and Johnnie. He leaves to cherish his memory wife, Windy; daughters, Cheryl; Domonique Turner and Autumn (Corey) Budd; grandsons, Holly “Dude” and Steven “Stevie”; granddaughters, Aja, Asani, and Addy; and great-granddaughters, Zuri and Chloe. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Emma Phillips, Emma Phillips-Branford, Lisa Sewell, Marie Sewell-Herbst, brothers-in-law, Al (Kathy) Sewell; Henry Sewell and Tony Robinson; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and his beloved Lima family. Chuck will be remembered with love and gratitude by his family and the many students, coworkers, and friends, whose lives he touched. His legacy lives on in the strength he modeled, the discipline he taught, and the love he shared.
