Barbara Ann Tucker

Sunrise for Mrs. Barbara Tucker on September 13, 1941, in Charleston, West Virginia. She is the oldest of three children born to the union of Lelia Anita Jordan and Marion Daniel Diggs. Seeking better employment opportunities as teachers, Barbara and Willie moved to Toledo, Ohio, following the advice of friends. In Toledo, Barbara, who was fluent in French and German, began teaching French at DeVilbiss High School and Robinson Junior High School. When Toledo schools were integrated, she was transferred to Bowsher High School, where she taught German for over twenty years until her retirement. A dedicated foreign language teacher, she took joy in watching her students learn a new language. Barbara was a devoted teacher who worked with various organizations focused on children, education, and community service. As a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., she worked on various committees and held several positions. She was initiated into the Zeta Alpha Omega Chapter in 1975. The highest position held was President of the Zeta Alpha Omega Chapter in Toledo, Ohio. As a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, she was just recognized as a Golden Soror with 50 years of service. Barbara was a Life Member of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Clubs, Inc. She was a dedicated member of the Toledo Club, serving in various positions until she was elected Governor of the North Central District. She was awarded the highest honor from the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Clubs, the Sojourner Truth Award for Outstanding Club Sister. Still wanting to serve the community further, Barbara was also a member of the Top Ladies of Distinction, where she held various positions, ultimately becoming the president of her chapter. Always willing to serve, she was currently serving as the chapter treasurer. Barbara has been a member of The Study Hour Club. As a nationally certified Parliamentarian, she has served as the parliamentarian of her local Alpha Kappa Alpha chapter and for the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club on the local and district level. Her community service has gained her numerous awards and accolades from her organizations. Barbara accepted Christ at a young age. As a woman of faith, she was a dedicated member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years. Barbara was a long-serving member of the choir until she had health problems. Barbara was always helpful in doing church bulletins and programs. She worked on organizing the church history for ABC-OHIO to celebrate two hundred years. Sunset for Barbara was on Friday, June 6, 2025, at her home. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Willie Tucker Jr.; her parents, Marion Daniel and Lelia Anita Diggs; and her brother, Marion Dallas Diggs. She is survived by her sons, Allen Daniel (Bonnie “BJ”) and Eric (Michelle), her brother Leroy Daniel (Jane), grandsons Eric Jefferson and Grant Harrison, nephews Daniel (Dari), Brian, and a host of cousins, Sorority Sisters, Club Sisters, family and friends.
