Jesse Baucom

Jesse Thomas Baucom, of Holland, OH, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, June 13th, 2011, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio (Detroit Avenue), Toledo, Ohio. An U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran, Jesse was the recipient of the Soldiers Medal in recognition of his heroism; he was directly responsible for saving the lives of two U.S. Army soldiers. Following his distinguished military service, Jesse earned his electrical technician certificate from Kentucky State Vocational School. Soon after, he moved to Toledo, OH where he worked as an electrician at General Electric. On February 6, 1978, he married Catherine D. McLane and moved to Holland, OH, and transferred to M&M Restaurant Supply, where he retired in 2010 after 35 years of dedicated service. An avid live-stock farmer with a life-long love for horses, Jesse was a founding member of the "Toledo's Horseman Club", established in 1991. He was also a member of the "Stinging Bees" softball team of Toledo, OH. Jesse was influential in the lives of many. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 33 years, Catherine Denise (McLane) Baucom; his children, Jesse (Mia) Caruthers Sr. (Paducah, KY), Thomas Finn Sr. (Toledo, OH), Tashonda Finn-Collins (Toledo, OH), Willis (Sheree) Baucom (Holland, OH) Vincent Baucom (Holland, OH); twenty - two grandchildren; sisters, Lola Baucom (Toledo, OH) and Joann (Ernie) Pierce; mother-in-law, Lessie Mae Jennings (Holland, OH); sisters- in -law; Betty Baucom, Anne Byrd, Dorothy Baucom, and Valerie Jennings (all of Toledo, OH), Jacqueline McLane (Swanton, OH), Veronica (James) Morgan (Holland, OH); brothers-in-law, Robert McLane and Curtis Jennings (Holland, OH) and Carl McLane- "The Son" (Toledo, OH); aunt, Evelyn Whitefield (Florissant, MO); special nieces; Patricia McCauley and Althea Shaheer (both of Toledo, OH) Kathleen Brown (Holland, OH); special nephews, Waymon Baucom and Charles Williams (both of Toledo, OH) and Shem Morgan (Holland, OH); Godson, Stacey Kynard (Toledo, OH); Goddaughter, Benita Williams (Toledo, OH); God sister, Peggy Williams; special friends, Dennis Null (Holland, OH), Rufus Simmons (Dyersburg, TN), Duke Mixon (Toledo, OH) and Reuben Jones (Toledo, OH); and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Visitation services will be held on Saturday, June 18th, 2011, at Dale Riggs Funeral Home, from 3-6 PM. Celebration of his life services will be held on Monday, June 20th, 2011, 12:00 pm preceded by family hour, 11:00 am, both at Dale Riggs Funeral Home. Interment Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
