Jane E. Austin

Mrs. Jane Evelyn Austin was born September 29, 1951 in Hope, Arkansas to Mr. William and Bessie Powell. She departed this life quietly on Tuesday morning August 10, 2021 in the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio at the age of 69 years old. Jane attended Hopewell Elementary and Yerger High School in Hope,Arkansas. She also took nursing aide classes in St. Louis, Missouri. She was always a very friendly and outgoing person who was loved by all who knew her. She touched many lives and loved children always finding time for them. Jane enjoyed cooking, (a very good one) reading and ushering. She will truly be missed. Jane was joined in Holy matrimony to Sammie L. Austin on June 2, 1973 and soon moved to Toledo, Ohio. To this union two sons were born: Derrick J. Austin and Daryl J. Austin. Jane accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in 1961 in Hope, Arkansas. In June, 1975 she united with the Christian Temple Baptist Church under the pastorage of the late Dr. Daisy L. Huff. After the passing of Dr. Huff, she continued to be a loyal and faithful member under Pastor Charles E. Jones until her passing. She truly loved Pastor Huff, Pastor Jones and her Church family; always willing to help when and wherever she could. For the past 15 years Jane was caretaker for her mother-in-love Maple Hopson and did an awesome job caring for her and making sure her needs were met. Jane worked in several bank institutions: Charter one Bank, and Keybank for 20+ years also Charleston House-Consignment shop for several years. Jane was very active in her church serving on the Usher Ministry as Vice-President under two presidents up until her passing for 40+ years. She also was Announcement clerk, chairperson of the Hospitality Ministry, served on Agape Ministry, Culinary Ministry, Publicist of Christian Temple, President of Ohio New Life District Ushers, Member of the Nurses ministry of Ohio Baptist State Convention. She was also member of local NAACP. She leaves to cherish her precious memory: her husband of 48 years Sammie L. Austin of Toledo; sons Derrick J. (Alexis) Austin Toledo; Daryl J. Austin Toledo; sisters Alice (George) Straughter and Bertha (Alvin) Wilson, St. Louis, Missouri; Preceded her in death; parents William and Bessie Powell; brother Ezell Powell and sister Minnie Powell-Muldrew; and seven grandchildren: Fitz Austin, Dyamond Austin, Derrick Austin, Jr, DeShawn Lawrence, Michala Lawrence, Mia Austin and Nevaeh Austin, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends which include her Pastor and the Christian Temple Church Family.
