Ernestine Hill

Ernestine affectionately known as “Mom,” “Stine,” “Devil Jones,” and “Dilly” departed this life on Sunday, March 6, 2011 after a short illness. She was born September 2, 1944 in Calmeter, MS to James and Elizabeth (Davis) Thomas. She was educated in the Mississippi Public School System. After living in Calmeter, MS most of her young life she met and married JC Clinton and to this union five children were born. She moved with her husband and children to Chicago, IL in 1963 and later moved to Toledo, OH in 1971 where she spent most of her adult life. Ernestine and JC were devoted to each other until his death. She was affiliated with the Holiness Church of God under the leadership of the late Pastor Lucille Williams and United #2 Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor Dan Cunningham and later affiliated with Christ Tabernacle Apostolic Faith Church, Richmond, IN under the leadership of Bishop John Fonzer. Later in life she had six more children and attended Stautzenberger College to become a Home Health Aide. She also met and married Marvin Hill of Dyersburg, TN where she resided for a brief period of time before returning back to Toledo and then moving with her sister to Richmond, IN during the 1990’s. Following the death of her sister (Mae Lee) and her failing health she was moved back to Toledo in the summer of 2008. She leaves to cherish her memory: Children: Linda Johnson of Toledo, OH; James Earl Clinton of Indiana; Christine (Lawrence) Mays and Marvin Clinton both of Columbus, OH; Tony Clinton of Nashville, TN; Charlene Clinton of Dyersburg, TN; Kiley Clinton and Marcus Clinton both of Indiana; Rashawn Clinton of San Antonio, TX. Sister: Eva “Ann” (Jay) Lofton of Richmond, IN. Seventeen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews with a special nephew Gregory Clinton who was her caretaker. She also leaves a host of other loving relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, one sister, two sons, and one daughter. She will be greatly missed and loved by all her knew her for the fights, parties, and her “get you told” straight talk. Visitation will be Friday 2:00 pm with Funeral services to follow @ 3:00 pm at Dale-Riggs Funeral Home Chapel Rev. Michael Carr, officant
