Elizabeth Edith Jones Wilson

Elizabeth Edith Jones Wilson was born December 21, 1922, the ninth and last child of William A. and Jessie (Gatliff) Jones. She departed this life on Sunday, October 5, 2014, at the age of 91. At a very early age, Elizabeth united with Warren AME Church, where she remained all her life, attending Family & Friends Day on Sunday, September 28, 2014. Family and friends would call her Betty or Lizzie. She was educated at Scott High School in Toledo. Lizzie married John B. Wilson in January 1946. He died in June 1989. Bowling was their favorite pastime. There were no children. Lizzie was employed with Successful Sales, Division Market, and Head Start for over 30 years. Children would be the hallmark of Lizzie's life. She was also a member of Just Us Club, 30+ Club, and Parkwood Seniors. All her brothers and sisters would bring their children to aunt Lizzie's house for babysitting. She would rear five generations of nephews and nieces. Aunt Lizzie became the family matriarch and her Belmont Avenue home would be headquarter central for all holiday meal gatherings. She loved Christmas best. All out of town relatives would stay at her house in Toledo. Her front porch was a place to watch the world go by. Lizzie, while fun loving and outgoing by nature, disciplined all her nephews and nieces with firm words and "The Look" - not to tear down, but to build up. All Lizzie's family predeceased her, mother, father, five brothers, John Alvin, Milton, William, Roland, and James and three sisters, Lucy, Helyn, and Annabelle. Left to cherish her memory are over 60 nephews and nieces with, William Walker (Pat Anderson) and sister-in-law, Juanita Jones of Toledo, OH; godson, Timothy Hardaway (Cathy) of Chicago, IL, and numerous other family and friends. Special thanks to nurse, Nick S. for his excellent, compassionate, dignified care during aunt Lizzie's final hours. Funeral arrangements are Saturday, October 11, 2014, family hour 11:00 a.m., funeral 12 noon at Warren AME Church, 915 Collingwood Blvd., Toledo, Ohio 43604 Reverend Dr. Otis J. Gordon Jr. Senior Pastor, all arrangements entrusted to Dale Riggs Funeral Home.
