Edna Turner

Edna Turner of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. She was 89 years old. Edna was born in St. Louis, Missouri on October 18, 1934, to the union of Charley T. and Gladys Watson. She graduated from Sidney B. Miller High School in Detroit, Michigan. Later, she married Forest “Sonny” Cherry and to that union, her beloved only son Stanley was born. She adored him and took care of him to the best of her ability and her best was great! He attended the best schools and was more than likely the best dressed! Years later, she met the love of her life, Mr. William Turner, Sr. Together, they were what you would call an impressive power couple. They always exemplified pure class and warmth. They enjoyed traveling together and eating at some of the finest restaurants. But, in their later years, they enjoyed the simple pleasures of dining at Bob Evans. They were married well over 50 years and loved each other until the end. Edna was a strong, no-nonsense kind of woman, always ready and willing to impart welcome and much appreciated wisdom to us all and was the absolute nicest and most generous person you could ever want to meet. She had a love for all animals her entire life. In her youth, she was very physically active! She loved to skate, swim, exercise and play sports, which is a testament to her long and healthy life. She attended St. James Church of God in Christ for over years and served on the Usher Board. She was a faithful mother of the church until her health began to fail, in recent years. She had many good and faithful friends that she loved spending time with and accompanying to dinner after services. She also enjoyed occasional outings with friends to have her hair and nails done. She really appreciated everything they’d done for her, especially considering the fact that she didn’t drive. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charley T. Watson and Gladys Amanda Watson, her beloved husband William A. Turner, Sr., son Stanley Cherry, stepson William A. Turner, Jr., son-in-law Emory Whittington, Jr., her brother Donald Thomas, sister Adele M. Lewis, nephews Alphonso P. Lewis, Sr., and George W. Lewis, and all her beloved aunts and uncles. She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving nieces Melissa J. Lewis, Donnette Thomas, one nephew Cozene Michael Watson, her stepdaughter, Joyce Whittington, beloved cousins, Evelyn Cook, Petah Hayes, Jackie Jones, Joyce Dalton and Sandra Benson, step grandchildren, Pastors Regina (Larry) Mack, Emory Whittington III, William (Pansi) Turner, III, and Juwanna Young, great-grandson Ethan Mack, and a host of other nieces, nephews, step great-grandchildren, family, and friends that loved her dearly. She will be desperately missed but we know that as long as she, Uncle T and Stan are together, our selfish loss has to come last. Rest well, sweet Edna. You know you were loved, valued, and adored.
