Arto Woodley

Obituary for Arto Woodley, Sr. Arto Woodley, Sr. 67, died as the result of various illnesses April 4, 2010 at Toledo Hospital. He was born on November 16, 1942 the last of fourteen children to the union of Willie and Mary Ella Woodley in Merigold, Mississippi who are both deceased. His wife Patricia E. and 12 brothers and sisters preceded him in death. After moving to Swanton, Ohio in 1954, he attended schools there and finished at Spencer Sharples before entering the U.S. Army and completing a GED. Serving with distinction in the Vietnam War he was a member of the Artillery Unit. After his second tour of duty he was honorably discharged in March 1968. Returning to Toledo, he worked for Chrysler before establishing Woodley Auto Repair at 602 Detroit. He led that business for 30 years before going into semiretirement in 2001. Known as “Otto or Auto” he was a master in diagnosing and fixing most automobile issues and developed a vast network of friends and partners in the auto business like Spud’s Used Cars and Forest City Auto Parts. His joy was restoring vintage cars like his Blue 1966 Pontiac GTO and Red 1966 Convertible Chevrolet Impala. A member of a large extended family he leaves to celebrate his life one sister Rosetta Connor, sons, Arto Jr. (Yvette) Orlando, Florida; Rodney Sr.; Jamal Sr. (Danita) Columbus; and Robert (Toni) and 17 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Also he leaves a special nephew, Lucky Holloway, lifelong friends Robert Lee and Harold and long time coworker James Bacon.
