David Lee Parkman Jr. age 75 of Toledo, Ohio passed away peacefully in his sleep at Hospice of Northwest Ohio on Tuesday, May 29, 2012. He was born on July 10, 1936 in Cambridge, MA., to the union of David Lee Parkman Sr. and Lucille (Lucas) Parkman. David graduated from Libbey High school and went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1957. While in the Air Force he flew under the direction of Red Tail Cornel Chappy Davis in the strategic air command over the skies of Korea, where he achieved the rank of Tech Sergeant. After his discharge he served inactively until 1961. David never really left the air force as his love of flight and aircraft stayed with him until his death. David worked for Buy-rite Furniture for a number of years and then was employed by the City of Toledo water reclamation department as a heavy equipment operator until he retired. He was a great artist and painter and was known for his incredible sense of humor and his philosophical opinions regarding people, politics, and race relations. David loved to cook and enjoyed jazz music and hated noise. He was affectionately known as pineapple by the guys in the neighborhood. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sondra Parkman, and beloved granddaughter, Ashley Parkman. David leaves to cherish his memories brother, Charles Parkman of Ann Arbor, MI; sisters Barbara Ellis of Las Vegas, NV, and Roberta Campbell of Columbus, OH; son, Daryle Parr; daughters, Denise Parkman (Smith), and Jennifer Parkman; stepchildren, Sherry Simmons, and Steven Whitaker; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; best friend, Mr. James Tripplet, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Visitation will be 10 a.m. Saturday followed by wake services 11 a.m. and funeral services 12 noon all at Dale-Riggs Funeral Home Chapel, interment Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. www.dalefh.com
