Carrie Virginia Wallace (Nee Mitchell) 96 passed away Monday August 9, 2010 at her home.

A native of Sulphur Wells, KY, Carrie came to Toledo in 1941 with her husband Harry and retired much later as a domestic worker and homemaker. Carrie was the last survivor of 11 children (9 girls, 2 boys) born to Laura Allen Young Mitchell.

As a member of Third Baptist Church, Mrs. Wallace avidly participated in the 20th Century Club, Women’s Council, was a member of the Kitchen Committee and was one time Women of the year. She was a long-time active superintendent, teacher, facilitator and trainer for the Sunday school as well as Financial Secretary. She was truly a “take charge” woman.

In 1998 she was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years Harry Wallace and son Morris Ray Samples in 2004.

She is survived by daughter, Annette Wallace (Curtis Evans) and grandson Troyer Wallace-Evans of Evanston, Illinois; daughter, Ida Mae Stafford (Gene) and grandson Allen Stafford of Dayton, Ohio; son, Howard Wallace (Idell) and grandchildren Teresa Hudson (James) and Melisa Wallace of Louisville, KY, and grandson James Howard Wallace Jr. of Jonesboro, GA; great grandchildren, Alan Jr., and Teah Stafford of Dayton, Ohio, Kayla and James Hudson of Louisville, KY; sister-in-law Margery Payne of Louisville, KY, many dear and faithful friends.

Visitation will be 4-6p.m. Friday (Today) at Dale-Riggs Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will be 1p.m. Saturday at Third Baptist Church Rev. Kevin J. Bedford Sr. Pastor Rev. Dr. Langston C. Bannister Eulogist burial Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. www.dalefh.com
