Ida Laura "Idell" Lewis, passed away peacefully Monday, January 7, 2008 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center surrounded by her family. Affectionately known at "Nanny" she was born April 7, 1919 in Charlotte, NC, the daughter of Henry C. and Cora Hicks, who both preceded her in death along with her sisters and brothers and her daughter Doris Hester.
She united in marriage to James W. Lewis in April 1931, who recently passed away to the heart felt vows she took "til death do us part." She became a member of Jehovah's Witnesses in the early 1930's and was a faithful and dedicated member of Jermain Congregation. She remained faithful thru her failing health doing what she loved most, sharing Jehovah's word with everyone who would listen. She loved her family with all her special mightiness (for such a small woman 4'11") showing everyone how big her heart was. She enjoyed cooking meals for friends and family and also enjoyed fishing and roller skating. Just being surrounded by all of her family meant everything to her. She leaves to cherish her memories sons James (Barbara), Henry (Joyce), daughters Kathaleen Hester and Lisa Johnson along with 19 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday 3 - 6 p.m. at Dale-Riggs Funeral Home Chapel, funeral services will be held Saturday 11:30 a.m. Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses 3445 E. Manhattan Blvd, Lewis Boyce presiding Elder, interment Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
