Geraldine Cranon 81, passed away December 26, 2007 at St.Vincent Mercy Medical Center. A native of Toledo, she was also a lifelong member of Third Baptist Church. Over her years of member she headed their prayer breakfasts, served on the Historical Committee, The Georgia Miller Mission, Sunday School, 20th Century Club, sang in the youth choir, and most recently The Feed Your Neighbor Program.
She graduated from Mary Manse College with a B.A. in 1948 and University of Toledo with a Bachelor’s in Education and 30 additional credits in Education. She taught at Monroe Elementary for seven years and Fulton Elementary for 24 years where she served as a Reading Specialist. Mrs Cranon ended her career in Education in 1988 after 31 years of service.
She was also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She supported the Cherry Street Mission and the Sparrow’s Nest and the Toledo Museum of Art. Mrs. Cranon was a diligent, dedicated and spiritual person who brought her skills and insights to everything that she did in her very productive and proficient life.
She met and married Ira Elijah Cranon Jr in 1950. He preceded her in death in 1969 as well as daughter Irene and son Ira E. Cranon III.
She leaves to cherish her memory children Charlene (Kevin) Gray of Garland, TX, Kathleen ( Dr. Drew) Alexander of Dallas, TX, Jeanne Marie (Terrence) Fuqua of Indianapolis, IN, special daughter Adrain Brooks Washington of
Toledo, sister Vesta Copeland, six grandchildren Kadra and Arika Alexander, Nicolette Gray, Traci Marie and Leslie Renee Fuqua, Mario Guy Waytes, four great grandchildren, niece Kelly(Michael) Marable-Hiltman and nephew Bruce Copeland both of Toledo, OH and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday 3 – 6 p.m. followed by wake services 6 – 8 p.m. including AKA rites at 7:00 p.m. Dale-Riggs Funeral Home, funeral services Thursday 11:00 a.m. Third Baptist Church, Rev. Dr. Langston C. Bannister officiant, interment Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
Memorial donations can be made to a scholarship fund established with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. The family will be receiving guests, only at the reception after the committal services at Third Baptist Church. www.dalefh.com
